This is a story I had an idea about a few weeks ago, but sat on it as I didn't have an idea for its expansion.
Here's the original idea.
An outsider wears a costume to fit in with a crowd (an example would be a boy wearing a robot costume) who then gets attention from a robot. He needs to try to live the lie and pretend he is a robot.
At this stage it's a pretty basic idea, and I was struggling to come up with a story to attached the idea to.
I let it sit in my work book for a few weeks, then came back to it a few days ago. Here is the expanded story. I made the story about a boy in a futuristic world who doesn't fit in with his type of people, so he decides to dress up like a robot and explore the 'other' part of the city.
ReplyDeleteIn a futuristic world, where humans coexist with aliens and robots, a young boy finds acceptance with a robot rather than his own race.
Jimmy is 12 years old and has gone through most of his life not fitting in with other kids. One day he decides that he wants to travel to the robot borough on the other side of the city. Being quite smart and ingenious, Jimmy makes himself a robot suit that is similar to the type of robots living in the city. He tells his parents it’s dress up day at school, and heads off in his suit. He takes the subway west to the borough of Tintown. Once there he spends the morning exploring the city and watching the robots go about their daily tasks. It is here that he bumps into a robot called Takahashi.
The robot thinks Jimmy has malfunctioned and decides that it would be fun to have Jimmy do some un-robotlike things. Jimmy plays along and they do some funny things, ie Jimmy pretending to do human things.
Takahashi has tasks to do so leaves Jimmy. Jimmy returns home after having the best day in
his life, and plans another trip to Tintown. He manages to get out to Tintown and have fun with Takahashi on numerous occasions, although he has to deceive his parents, and also skip school to do this.
One day when going out to Tintown, his father notices Jimmy taking a subway train to the west when he should be taking the north train so follows him.
In Tintown, Jimmy is exposed as a human in front of Takahashi by his father who takes him back home and grounds him. His father decides to destroy his robot suit as punishment, and as he is carrying the suit down to the basement, a large number of photos fall out. They depict Jimmy and his robot friend laughing and having fun in the robot town. Jimmy’s father has never seen him this happy and on the following weekend takes Jimmy out to Tintown. The robot at first is not accepting of Jimmy the human, but in the end Jimmy and his robot friend reconcile and spend their weekends hanging out and having fun. Jimmy goes back to school and is happier than ever.
